Frideger Road Bridge No. 4902 Replacement

Project Information

Bridge No. 4902 | County Road Project C3239
Project Type: Bridge Replacement
Project Manager: Michael Duke Jr., P.E.
Design Year: 2020
Construction Year: 2021

Project Description

This bridge replacement is located on Frideger Road just east of the Elk-Camden Road/Frideger Road intersection in north Spokane County, Section 04, T 29N, R 44E, WM. The existing bridge, which crosses the Little Spokane River, was constructed in 1957 and is currently posted with weight restrictions. Distress observed in the bridge girders, some rotation of the abutments, and the exposed footings prompted the County to apply for and receive a federal grant in 2017 to replace the bridge.

The existing bridge is 30 feet in length and 26 feet wide curb-to-curb. The new bridge will be constructed with 30” precast concrete slab girders founded on driven steel pile. It will be lengthened to 58 feet long and widened to 28 feet curb-to-curb and will include two 11-foot vehicle lanes and two 3-foot wide shoulders. Approaches on both the east and west ends of the bridge will also be reconstructed. Both the bridge and roadway will remain in their general original footprint and elevation with some widening to occur. The project footprint will stretch approximately 470 feet along Frideger Road, starting just east of the junction with Elk-Camden Road. A temporary traffic detour will be in place during construction which will route traffic to Bridges Road and Madison Road.

Project Duration

Slated for construction in 2021, the project is expected to take approximately 6 months to complete. Engineers are working closely with impacted property owners, regulators, and the public to ensure a successful project. The project will be funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
