Project No: CRP 3236
Project Engineer: Jake Saxon, P.E.
Project Timeline: 2019
Current Project Status – The project was completed by Acme Concrete Paving over the course of the 2019 construction season. The roundabout was opened for traffic in September of 2019 and fully functional in October of 2019. Minor cleanup and repair work will be completed in the spring of 2020.
Project Description – The Aero Westbow Roundabout project will replace the existing four-way stop intersection at W. Aero Road and W. Westbow Road with a single-lane roundabout. Due to increased development in the area, significant traffic growth is expected to outgrow the capacity of the already strained existing intersection. A roundabout was selected for the intersection for its ability to meet the demands of anticipated traffic growth, as well as provide continuity with the three roundabouts planned for construction with WSDOT’s Medical Lake Interchange project. The roundabout has been designed to accommodate the large volume of interstate semi-trailer trucks that use the intersection. The finished roundabout will be comparable in size to roundabouts in the region located at Freya and Wellesley, and Harvard and Mission at the Liberty Lake I-90 interchange.
