Aero - Westbow Roundabout
Project No: CRP 3236
Project Engineer: Jake Saxon, P.E.
Project Timeline: 2019
Current Project Status – The project design phase is complete and Spokane County advertised for bids in March 2019. Bids were opened March 20, 2019 and the contract was awarded to the low bidder, Acme Concrete Paving Inc. Construction is currently scheduled to begin the last week of April/ first week of May 2019. A pre-construction public open house will be held April 23rd, 2019 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at Inland Power and Light Company at 10110 W Hallett Road. Information on what is being constructed, construction timeline, and traffic impacts will be presented at the open house.
Project Description – The Aero Westbow Roundabout project will replace the existing four-way stop intersection at W. Aero Road and W. Westbow Road with a single-lane roundabout. Due to increased development in the area, significant traffic growth is expected to outgrow the capacity of the already strained existing intersection. A roundabout was selected for the intersection for its ability to meet the demands of anticipated traffic growth, as well as provide continuity with the three roundabouts planned for construction with WSDOT’s Medical Lake Interchange project. The roundabout has been designed to accommodate the large volume of interstate semi-trailer trucks that use the intersection. The finished roundabout will be comparable in size to roundabouts in the region located at Freya and Wellesley, and Harvard and Mission at the Liberty Lake I-90 interchange.
