More Information About Becoming Part of the SAR Team

Spokane County Search and Rescue team members are required to take numerous classes to become part of the team - and to maintain team status.
These classes include:
  • Search and Rescue Academy - offered once a year - 40 to 60 hours
  • FEMA Courses IS 100 & 700 - available online
  • First Aid Training - through the academy with refresher training held during exercises
  • Blood Borne Pathogens - available online
  • Basic Helicopter Safety Training - available during SAR Academy and one optional date
All classes (with the exception of FEMA and Blood Borne Pathogens) will be provided by Search and Rescue and/or other certified personnel. Certificates of completion must be emailed to Simone Ramel-McKay with Spokane County Emergency Management.
