The Hawthorne East Stormwater Project will take place in conjunction with CRP3166. The stormwater aspect of the project will replace aging disposal structures with new structures to provide stormwater treatment. Treatment will be provided by sand filter vaults installed under sidewalks and disposal will be via drywells below the roadway.
This project is located over the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie aquifer which is designated as a sole-source aquifer by the EPA, and provides drinking water for 500,000 people. The project is being designed in accordance with the Spokane Regional Stormwater Manual which is an Ecology-approved, equivalent manual to the Stormwater Management Manual for Eastern Washington.
Funding for the stormwater aspects of this project will come from Stormwater fees that have already been collected, along with Washington State Department of Ecology grant funds. The cost estimate for this project ranges from $900,000.00 to $1,150,000.00.
