Walk the Basin
A watershed is the area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains off of it goes into the same place. Watersheds come in all shapes and sizes. No matter where you are, you're in a watershed!
Wesley Powell, scientist geographer, put it best when he
said that a watershed is: "that area of land, a bounded
hydrologic system, within which all living things are inextricably
linked by their common water course and where, as humans settled,
simple logic demanded that they become part of a community."
By beginning the virtual tour of the Spokane basin, you will be
able to digitally navigate the Little Spokane River watershed from
its headwaters to its confluence with the Spokane River. You will
also navigate the Middle Spokane River watershed from the Washington-Idaho
border westward to the confluence with Hangman Creek.
This will be a descriptive tour, showing you samples of the river and tributaries, natural resources, plants, animals, and history along the way. At any point along the journey you can choose to back up, or continue down the river.
