Family Treatment Drug Court
Mission Statement:
Through judicial accountability and enhanced access to comprehensive treatment services, the Family Treatment Drug Court improves the safety and welfare of children and supports the recovery of their parents from alcohol and drug abuse.
Family Treatment Drug Court is a voluntary alternative to traditional dependency court process designed to more effectively help parents and their children in dependency cases where drug addiction is the central problem.
Frequent court appearances and a non-adversarial team approach along with a variety of rewards and sanctions, combined with comprehensive drug treatment, counseling, and housing assistance are used to achieve these goals.
Program Goals
- To achieve a prompt reunification of the family where possible or permanency for the children if this is not possible
- To ensure that all families, including families of color have similar outcomes in their cases
- To reduce the cost to society of dependency cases involving substance abuse
- To establish permanency for the child in a timely fashion while providing comprehensive and intensive substance abuse treatment and wraparound services
- To help substance-abusing parents to become abstinent, receive appropriate treatment, and consequently make positive changes in their lives and the lives of their child
- To enable parents to function better in their families and communities thereby being less likely to have future involvement with the courts and the child welfare system
