On Thursday, May 31st, a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office work crew from the Geiger Corrections Center arrived at the Rockford City Park to help remove graffiti, sand and stain park b...enches and paint buildings after it was vandalized a week earlier.

A Rockford Public Works employee reported the vandalism on May 21st. There was substantial damage to the city park which included damage to the Lyon's Club picnic shelter, fair building and nearly every other structure and fixture within the park.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Nye, the Freeman and Liberty School District’s School Resource Deputy, quickly began investigating the incident. Also on May 31st, Deputy Nye developed probable cause through his investigation to charge four juvenile males.

The Geiger work crew was supervised by Corrections Deputy R. Tomsha and consisted of seven offenders. The crew spent approximately 6.5 hours cleaning up the Rockford City Park which is a focal point of the Rockford community.

The Geiger Inmate Work Crew Program performs manual and skilled labor such as clean up, litter pick up, graffiti removal, forestry work, limited maintenance and other projects for non-profit and government agencies related to public health, safety and welfare.
