Spokane Valley Man Admits "I'm Stupid"

Posted 6/4/2012 4:18 PM by MDGREGORY

On Thursday evening, May 31st, before midnight, Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputy Juan Rodriguez was in the area of Pines and Valleyway Road when he observed a dirt bike style motorcycle with two occupants cross Pines Road eastbound on Valleyway Road. Deputy Rodriguez saw the motorcycle did not have any lights and the rear passenger was the only one wearing a helmet.

Deputy Rodriguez turned his marked patrol vehicle around and attempted to stop the motorcycle as it was traveling southbound on Pines Road on the east side sidewalk. The motorcycle turned eastbound on Main Avenue accelerating in an obvious attempt to avoid Deputy Rodriguez.

Deputy Rodriguez activated his lights and siren and the motorcycle continued to travel eastbound on Main Avenue. When the motorcycle reached a dead end cul-de-sac at Main and Clinton Road, the driver turned around and drove past Deputy Rodriguez westbound on Main Avenue.

Deputy Rodriguez was able to hear the motorcycle start to malfunction as he turned his patrol vehicle around in the cul-de-sac. Deputy Rodriguez located the driver, 22-year-old Damien Plumley, and the passenger near the area of the cul-de-sac attempting to dismount the motorcycle.

After Deputy Rodriguez detained both individuals Plumley, who has an extensive local criminal history, said "I'm stupid Rodriguez, I should have never tried that".

Plumley was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the charges of Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, Fail To Stop and Provide Information and Driving While License Suspended Third Degree. He was also issued infractions for No Motorcycle Endorsement, Operating a Motorcycle Without a Helmet and ORV (off road vehicle) Driven on Roadway.
