Spokane Valley Man in Stable Condition after Shooting Himself

Posted 5/31/2012 9:44 AM by MDGREGORY

Around midnight Thursday morning, May 31st, Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies responded to a shooting call near the area of 17400 E. Indiana Road. As Deputy Lawhorn approached the area, dispatch advised the 30-year-old male victim was being transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his chin.

Deputy Lawhorn saw a vehicle... exiting the area of the shooting, stopped the vehicle and confirmed the victim was present. Deputy Lawhorn confirmed the victim was shot in the facial area and requested medics to the scene.

After the victim was transported to the hospital, Deputy Lawhorn spoke with a 19-year-old male who was with the victim at the time of the shooting. He told deputies they had both been drinking beer and taking shots of whiskey during the evening. The victim retrieved his 9mm handgun out of his bedroom to show his friend what he had done to it. The witness said he watched the victim rack the slide several times and take the magazine out of the weapon. A couple minutes later, he heard the gun go off and realized his friend accidentally shot himself in the chin.

The victim is expected to live and is listed in stable condition after surgery.
