On December 19th, 2013, just before midnight, Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Thurman attempted to stop a vehicle that was reported as a possible DUI driver near the area of University and Valleyway, but the driver, later identified as 28-year-old
Jeremy Brown, refused to stop.
After a short pursuit, Brown ran from his running vehicle in the parking lot of the Industrial Park near Sprague and Vista. He jumped a fence and kicked in the front door of a residence located near the 7900 block of East Harrington.
Deputy Joe Bodman was near the Harrington residence and contacted the homeowner outside. He told Deputy Bodman, Brown was inside his house and that Brown said he had a gun. The homeowner said there were no other people inside the residence. A gun was later
located in the bathroom of the residence.
Deputies surrounded the residence and tried to get Brown to come outside. Since Brown refused to cooperate and was possibly armed, the Spokane County SWAT Team, Hostage Negotiators and Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) responded to the scene.
EDU utilized their robot to enter the residence which allowed them to speak to Brown. Brown refused all commands to exit the residence which resulted in the SWAT Team introducing gas into the residence.
Brown still refused to exit the residence so the decision was made to release Deputy Thurman's K9 partner Laslo into the residence. Shortly after Laslo entered, Brown jumped out a rear bedroom window where deputies were waiting. Brown was taken into custody
Brown was booked into jail for the felony charges of Eluding and Residential Burglary. Brown also had an active felony warrant out of Idaho through the Department of Corrections. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
