Two Burglaries, One Vehicle Prowling In Same Neighborhood

Posted 11/5/2013 11:12 AM by MDGREGORY

On Saturday, November 2nd, 2013, Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputy Cindy Jones responded to a residential burglary call near the 14200 block of East Broadway. The homeowner's daughter told Deputy Jones that Friday night, at about 11:40 p.m., she took her friend home. She said she left the garage door open because her mother was awake and working on a puzzle in her bedroom. She returned home at about 12:25 a.m., entered through the garage, closed the door and went inside.

When her mother woke up Saturday morning, she found her purse was missing from the chair she keeps it on next to the door leading out to the garage. The victim cancelled her credit card and found out it had already been used at a convenience store in Liberty Lake at about 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

While investigating this residential burglary, dispatch advised Deputy Jones there was a purse found near the area of the initial residential burglary. She contacted the complainant who said he was out looking for his daughter's wallet as it had been stolen Thursday evening from her vehicle.

This purse did not belong to Deputy Jones’ initial victim but as a result of this call, she determined there was a vehicle prowling and another residential burglary near the victim's residence of her initial investigation.

The other residential burglary took place sometime Friday evening between 3:00 and 8:00 p.m. The victim said he left his wallet inside his house next to the garage door and it was stolen. He also said his garage door was left open.

This is another reminder to citizens to make sure to close their garage doors whether or not they are at home and not leave valuables in their vehicles. The Sheriff's Office encourages citizens to continue to report suspicious persons, vehicles and activity to Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
