Today, October 11th, 2013, at 9:00 a.m., Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies responded to a vehicle vs. train collision at Trent and Vista. The 68-year-old male driver was stopped on Vista south of Trent in the southbound lane of travel. According to witnesses,
the driver drove through the crossing arm and was struck by the train, which was traveling westbound.
The train was traveling an estimated 18-20 mph and pushed the vehicle approximately one-hundred-feet before coming to a stop. The driver had to be extricated and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Vista road was closed at the crossing while collision investigators document the scene but it is now open from traffic.
