Double Fatal Collision Investigation

Posted 10/7/2013 8:52 AM by MDGREGORY

Saturday evening, October 5th, 2013, at 9:00 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one-vehicle collision at 5200 S. Bates Road in Spokane Valley. Deputies arrived on scene to find two juvenile females, 15 and 16-years-old, deceased from the collision.

Sheriff's Office Collision Investigators responded to the collision. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Bates at an apparent high rate of speed. As the vehicle approached an s-curve, the 16-year-old male driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the curb on the east side of the road causing the vehicle to become airborne. The vehicle struck a large tree on the east side of Bates killing the 15 and 16-year-old female passengers.
The driver was transported to a local hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.

Speed appears to be the cause of this collision, not impairment. The investigation is ongoing and there have been no charges forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office at this time.

The Medical Examiner's Office will provide the identity of the two deceased passengers after autopsy's are completed.
