Tire Store Employee Catches Thieves Stealing Tires

Posted 5/14/2012 4:57 PM by MDGREGORY

On Saturday morning, May 12th, at about 6:00 a.m., a tire store employee saw a truck parked next to a trailer at the business located near the 1100 block of West Francis Avenue when he arrived at work. The business has had several thefts recently and the employee did not recognize the vehicle parked next to the trailer.

The employee parked his ...vehicle behind the truck and saw two tires had been placed in the bed of the truck from the trailer. The employee confronted an adult male and female walking out of the trailer and told them he had called police. Both suspects did not say anything and walked away in separate directions. Spokane County Sheriff's deputies later determined the truck had been stolen out of Lincoln County.

Deputy Truman was responding to the area and saw a male that matched the suspect description walking down Stevens Street. Deputy Truman contacted the male, who initially provided a false name. Deputy Truman detained the male who then provided his correct name of 51 year-old Mark Gregory. Gregory told Deputy Truman he had a warrant for his arrest, which in fact he did for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Deputy Truman placed Gregory under arrest for his felony warrant and advised him of his rights. Gregory admitted he was at the tire business with his friend "Mandy" and drove the truck, which he had borrowed from a friend. Gregory also admitted they were there to steal tires.

Prior to placing Gregory into his patrol vehicle, Gregory told Deputy Truman "there is some meth in my pocket. I found it on the ground. It's not mine". Deputy Truman found a small plastic baggy in Gregory's front pocket that did in fact contain methamphetamine.

• Gregory was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine), Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Third Degree Theft and a felony Possession of a Controlled Substance warrant.
