On Saturday, May 12th, Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputy D. Schaum responded to a business near the 16200 block of East Broadway. When Deputy Schaum arrived on scene he found the suspect, identified as 35 year-old Joel Denenny, parked in the middle of a
lumber loading area at the business.
Deputy Schaum contacted Denenny, checked his name and confirmed Denenny had a warrant for his arrest for suspended driving. Denenny was placed under arrest for the warrant.
Deputy Schaum contacted the business employees who told him Denenny had filled a cart full of items from the business but when he saw employees watching him, decided to leave the items near the door.
Deputy Schaum transported Denenny to the Spokane County Jail. Corrections Deputies located a clear plastic baggy containing a white crystal substance inside Denenny's front bib pocket. Deputy Schaum immediately recognized the substance as methamphetamine. Deputy
Schaum field tested the substance which resulted in a positive, presumptive test for methamphetamine. Denenny admitted the substance was methamphetamine, but he did not use it. Denenny was booked into jail for the warrant and a felony charge of Possession
of a Controlled Substance, methamphetamine.
