Please help us Congratulate Hal Halverson who received the “Volunteer of the Year Award” by the Washington State Crime Prevention Association

In an organization of over 500 volunteers, you might wonder what it takes to rise to the top…Hal Halverson embodies the spirit and dedication that is the heart and soul of SCOPE. The Sheriff's Community Oriented Policing Effort has been providing community service for the citizens of Spokane County since the mid 90's and Hal Halverson has been a part of the program since it began.

He is a founding member of the Central Valley SCOPE station and has been a faithful volunteer at the Sheriff's Office downtown front desk for over a decade. He has amassed more than 10,000 hours of service but, so have many other volunteers….Why is Hal special?

If you've ever had a conversation with Hal, you know right away he is a sharp, gentle person that honestly cares about others. His dedication to his volunteer position goes beyond showing up for work faithfully. A few years ago Hal broke his hip on duty and rather than "retire", he accomplished a full recovery and again took up his post at the Sheriff's front desk. This was much to the relief of the deputies who have come to rely on his ability to serve the public at that very busy station.

When Hal was nominated this spring as volunteer of the year by the Washington State Crime Prevention Association, he won hands down. Hal, you are the finest example of a volunteer and we appreciate you and your dedication very much.

Also, THANK YOU to all of our volunteers who give their time to help not only the Sheriff’s Office but their entire community!! We honestly couldn’t do it without all of you!!
