The Spokane Regional Incident Response Team (S.I.R.R.) is investigating a fatal officer involved shooting of a homicide suspect early this morning.
Several officers of the Spokane Police Department were following up on suspect information in connection with the earlier homicide incident on West Grace where the victim was shot.
Officers arrived at a residence believed to be the suspect’s located in the 22000 block of West Charles Road. They observed a vehicle at the location matching the description of the vehicle used by the homicide suspect. Believing the suspect was still armed;
officers began to set up a perimeter around the residence as they waited for additional units and equipment to arrive.
A male, believed to be the suspect was contacted outside the residence and failed to follow commands when he was confronted by the officers.
During the incident, shots were fired by the officers, striking the suspect who was pronounced dead at the scene.
SIRR Team detectives are currently executing a search warrant at the location and processing the scene.
Additionally, 2 adults and 1 juvenile were contacted at the residence and interviewed by SIRR Team detectives. None of the officers involved were injured.
This officer involved shooting is an active and ongoing investigation conducted by the SIRR Team which is comprised of members of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol and the Spokane Police Department.
The identity of the male suspect will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office at a later time.
