On Saturday May 11th, Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies with the assistance of K9 Laslo, located and arrested 3 adult females for felony charges.

The incident started just after 11 p.m. when Deputy Nathan Bohanek began checking the area of Argonne Road and Montgomery for 3 adult females. A citizen reported the females were wearing what appeared to be hospital wristbands and they told him they had just “escaped” from a drug treatment facility. This information also matched a report received less than an hour earlier where it was reported 3 females walked away from a drug treatment facility in 12700 block of Mission in violation of a court order.

Deputy Bohanek entered the Denny’s on North Argonne to check for the suspect. He observed 3 females matching the description leave the building through an emergency exit. As he exited the building, he observed the 3 suspects running across Argonne and called for additional units to assist.

Deputy Jeff Thurman and his K9 partner, Laslo, arrived in the area to assist. Deputy Thurman observed the females run into the parking lot of the Motel 6. He positively identified one of the females as 21-year-old Natalie Y. Benish, who had 2 confirmed out-of-county felony warrants, from a picture on his mobile computer. When he pulled into the parking lot, he exited his vehicle with Laslo and yelled for the suspects to stop. 23-year-old Harly J. Benders stopped immediately but Benish and 25-year-old Tawni J. Kosnosky continue to run.

As additional units arrived, Deputy Thurman and Laslo gave chase. Deputy Thurman again ordered the suspects to stop but they continued to flee around a corner and out of sight. Sgt. Lawson advised the 2 suspects ran out the exit door, turned around and were now running back inside. As Deputy Thurman rounded the corner, he observed Benish and Kosnosky running toward him in the hallway but they stopped when they saw him and Laslo.

Deputy Thurman ordered them to stop or he would send Laslo. Kosnosky immediately leaned against the wall and put her hands up but Benish turned and began to run toward the exit. Deputy Thurman deployed Laslo and Benish was quickly apprehended.

Kosnosky and Benders were transported to the Spokane County Jail and booked on felony DOC warrants. Kosnosky was also cited for an additional misdemeanor charge of Obstructing a Peace Officer.

After receiving medical treatment, Benish was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail on her felony warrants and she was cited for additional misdemeanor charges of Obstructing a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest.
