On February 12, 2013, at about 12:40 p.m., Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputy Scott Streltzoff, who is assigned to East Valley School District, received a report of two vehicles racing on Sullivan near the high school.
Deputy Streltzoff spoke to the witness who said he observed two vehicles approaching him at a high rate of speed northbound on Sullivan as he was traveling over the Trent overpass. He said both vehicles passed him on the left and one of the vehicles recklessly
cut in front of him nearly causing him to hit the overpass at the westbound Trent off-ramp.
The witness said the northbound signal on the overpass turned green and both vehicles raced to the intersection at Wellesley, disregarded the stop sign and continued north into the parking lot at East Valley H.S.
Deputy Streltzoff spoke with the juvenile drivers of both vehicles. One of the drivers had an instruction permit and the other was under the intermediate license restriction and was not able to have any passengers under 20-years-old in his vehicle. Both vehicles
had passengers that Deputy Streltzoff interviewed.
One of the juvenile males admitted that they were racing and the other said the 48-year-old witness was "too old" and Deputy Streltzoff should not believe him.
• One of the juvenile males was criminally charged with Reckless Driving and issued an infraction for No Valid Operator's License.
• The other was criminally charged with Racing and issued an infraction for violating his intermediate license restrictiion.
• Both were cited and released back to East Valley High School.
