October of 2012, the Spokane County Engineer’s Office and the Spokane County Target Zero Task Force received funding from Washington Traffic Safety Commission for the Monroe Road Safety Project.
Monroe Road is an eleven mile, two-lane rural roadway with a posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour. A total of five fatalities and eighteen serious injury collisions occurred on Monroe Road in the past four years. Speed is the major contributing factor. The
primary goal of this safety project is to reduce the traffic collisions on Monroe Road. Remember "Slow Down and Stay Safe" is the safety message!
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office started extra emphasis patrols In October of 2012 and will continue until the end of September of this year.
The results of extra enforcement from October to December 31st is 145 contacts resulting in 92 infractions with 48 speed violations, 6 citations, and 1 DUI arrests. No fatalities or serious injury collisions to report.
