Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a robbery that took place this morning in the parking lot of Progress Elementary located at Broadway and Progress in Spokane Valley. At about 11:15 a.m., the female victim called 911 and said she was assaulted in the parking lot and that the suspect took her cell phone and purse.

The victim told deputies she had walked her niece into the school. She said when she walked back out to her vehicle in the parking lot, she opened the driver's side door and was struck in the back of her neck with an unknown object. The victim said she was knocked to the ground, saw the suspect take her cell phone and purse out of her vehicle and run southbound on Progress Road. The victim said the suspect was possibly a white male in his late twenties wearing a dark jacket, jeans and a baseball cap. The victim was treated and released at the scene by paramedics.

Several deputies set up a perimeter in the area and a Sheriff's K-9 unit tracked south of the school. The suspect was not located.
