On October 6, 2012, at 11:30 p.m., Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputy B. Zlateff responded to Conoco at Pines and Mission in Spokane Valley for an assault call. An employee told 911 a white male in his late thirties to early forties, approximately 5'8" and
200 pounds, had assaulted him at the store.
When Deputy Zlateff entered the store his nose began to burn. He asked the employee if he was cleaning with bleach and the employee told him no. The employee said the suspect had thrown some type of liquid on the floor from a five-gallon bucket. Deputy Zlateff
and the employee immediately exited the store.
The employee said the suspect was attempting to purchase almonds and beer. When the employee attempted to scan the almonds the suspect ripped them out of his hands. Due to his behavior, the employee told the suspect to leave the store.
The employee said about ten minutes later the suspect entered the store with a five-gallon bucket. He said the suspect poured liquid on the floor towards him, then fled in a 1990's Honda Accord style, gray, 4-door sedan.
Spokane Valley Fire responded to the scene and determined the liquid to be acid and petroleum based. The store was closed until hazmat crews cleaned the floor.
Attached are surveillance photos of the suspect. Anyone who can identify the suspect is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
