Burglar Caught In The Act

Posted 12/6/2012 11:01 AM by KWESTBERG

On Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at about 5:00 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff Deputies responded to a possible in-progress residential burglary near the area of 13500 N. Addison. A neighbor told 911 that her neighbors were not home, the front door appeared to be kicked in and there was someone loading electronics into a Jeep Cherokee in front of the house.

Deputy C. Ruff arrived on scene, saw a white Jeep Cherokee in the driveway and could hear yelling coming from the house. Deputy Ruff saw a white female standing by the passenger door of the vehicle and a white male, later identified as 23-year-old Casey Hallman, exit the front door of the residence carrying several snowboards.

Hallman attempted to get into the driver's seat of the vehicle and drive away from the scene. Deputy Ruff was able to pull Hallman out of the vehicle and detain him until Deputy J. Sutter arrived to assist.

After Hallman and the female were detained, Hallman told Deputy Ruff he was helping a friend move and there were two additional people in the house. No one else was located on the property.

After the homeowner arrived on scene, it was determined forced entry was made through the front door. Deputy Ruff checked the license plate with dispatch and determined the vehicle was stolen. The stolen vehicle contained several electronic devices including two large flat screen televisions. The homeowner positively identified the stolen items inside the vehicle.

Deputy D. Westlake transported Hallman to the Spokane County Jail. While at the jail Corrections Deputies located a baggie of marijuana in Hallman's pocket and three small pills that were identified as Oxycodone.

• Hallman was booked into Spokane County Jail for Residential Burglary, 1st Degree Theft, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstructing and Possession of Marijuana. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected. The female may be charged at a later time.
