On Saturday, April 14th, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a recklessly driven van near the area of Bigelow Gulch and Argonne Road. There were several witnesses that called into 911 describing the erratic
driving pattern of the vehicle.
Deputy Matt Spink responded to the area of Highway 2 and Day-Mt. Spokane where he observed a van matching the suspect vehicle’s description at the intersection waiting to turn westbound onto Day-Mt. Spokane. Deputy Spink confirmed he was behind the correct
van and that the driver had just run into the Zip Trip business located at Highway 2 and Day-Mt. Spokane.
Deputy Spink activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver, later identified as a juvenile male, failed to stop and attempted to elude Deputy Spink. After a short pursuit, the suspect drove the van over a curb near the area
of Lane Park and Chesapeake Road disabling both front tires. Deputy Spink took the juvenile male into custody without incident. Shortly after the incident the owner of the van was contacted. He told deputies his van was parked at his house the night prior
at 11:00 p.m. and he had no idea who the juvenile male was or that his vehicle had been stolen.
The suspect was booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention for the felony charges of Attempting to Elude and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Additional charges include DUI, Hit and Run, Possession of a Controlled Substance (marijuana), and Driving While
License Suspended 2nd Degree.
