On Wednesday, October 24, 2012, Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy M. Beckman contacted Avista Utilities personnel in Deer Park for a theft report. Avista employees told Deputy Beckman that sometime between October 16th and October 24th, over one-half mile
of copper wire had been stolen.
Employees told Deputy Beckman that sometime within that time frame over one-half mile of wire had been stolen from their substation on Dahl Road. Another 450 to 500 feet of copper wire had been stolen from their Little Spokane substation during the same time
frame as well.
Avista employees said that between July and October of this year, crews have spent nearly an entire month replacing and repairing equipment from these thefts. Avista estimated the scrap value of the copper stolen at $595.00. The total cost to replace and repair
hardware from these thefts is nearly $12,000.00.
Avista Utilities is offering a cash reward to anyone who can provide information leading to an arrest and conviction for those responsible for these thefts. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
