Valley Fire Paramedic Assaulted

Posted 10/23/2012 11:49 AM by KWESTBERG

On Monday, October 22, 2012, Spokane Valley Fire Department personnel responded to the 9500 block of East 4th for a medics call. Valley Fire personnel were called to the residence for a woman possibly having a seizure.

While a Valley Fire Paramedic was accessing the female, 51-year-old William Nachtwey became agitated and called the paramedic an obscenity. The paramedic ignored Nachtwey and continued treating the female.

This apparently angered Nachtwey who decided to take matter into his own hands. Nachtwey grabbed the paramedic by his left shoulder and uniform pulling him away from the female victim. The paramedic pushed Nachtwey away from him and, due to Nachtwey's high level of intoxication, he tripped over a coffee table not injuring himself. Nachtwey stood up, clenched his fists and assumed a boxing stance. The paramedic and his partner chose to exit the residence and contacted Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies. The paramedic was not injured during the incident.

Deputies G. Criswell and M. Gould responded to the scene and contacted Nachtwey at his residence. They asked Nachtwey to exit his residence to speak with him. Nachtwey met the deputies outside and mumbled some vulgarities at them. When the deputies told Nachtwey he was under arrest for 3rd Degree Assault, he fell over a garbage can. Nachtwey was obviously extremely intoxicated according to the deputies reports. Nachtwey was not injured.

• Nachtwey was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the felony charge of 3rd Degree Assault.
