The Spokane County Sheriff's Office would like to warn citizens about a security company claiming to be working with the Sheriff's Office. Throughout the summer, a number of people have been contacted by a security company claiming one of two scenarios.
The first is for people that do not have a security system. Salespeople are claiming that due to criminal activity in their neighborhood, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office is paying for the installation fee of their security system. This is not true. The
Sheriff's Office does not contract with any security company for public sales.
The second scenario deals with people that have existing security systems. Salespeople are contacting these homeowners and implying that they are from their existing security company. These salespeople are then changing their system from the existing security
company to an alternate system, having the customer sign a new contract then charging a higher monthly price than was quoted to the customer.
The Sheriff's Office requests that if anyone is contacted by a security company that claims to be in partnership with this agency to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233. Citizens are also urged to contact the local office of the Better Business Bureau at 509-232-0579.
