On Monday, September 17, 2012, at 4:00 p.m., Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies responded to a suicidal call near the 17500 block of East Sprague Ave. Deputies were advised the adult male had been making threats to harm himself and family members, and that
he was in an irrational state of mind.
When deputies arrived on scene they located the male subject sitting i...nside his pickup truck with the windows rolled up. The only other information deputies had was that the male possibly had a handgun with him inside the truck.
Deputies quickly secured the scene and ensured the safety of the neighbors by contacting all of the homes in the immediate area and requesting residents stay inside.
Since the subject was barricaded, and possibly armed, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team's armored vehicle, "The Bearcat", was requested and utilized at the scene by members of the SWAT Team that had responded to the call. Spokane County Sheriff's
office hostage negotiators also responded to the scene.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., the male subject fell out of the truck onto the ground. Deputies made sure the male was not armed and requested medics. Medics provided aid to the subject at the scene, then transported him to a local medical facility. The male did
not make any threats to anyone but himself and will not be facing any criminal charges. Deputies did locate a .45 caliber handgun inside the vehicle.
