On September 12, 2012, Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy S. Nelson and his K-9 partner Gordy were training with other Sheriff's Office K-9 deputies. Gordy became lethargic throughout the day, which was very uncommon, as Gordy always enjoyed training days.
Concerned for his partners behavior, Deputy Nelson took Gordy to the veterinarian clinic. It was determined Gordy had suffered from internal bleeding the veterinarian believed was from some type of mass inside Gordy rupturing. At 7:00 p.m. Gordy succumbed to
Gordy and Deputy Nelson have been partners for the past eight years. Gordy was ten years old and a vital member of the Sheriff's Office K-9 program. Gordy was a cross-trained K-9 not only able to track offenders but also trained to detect narcotics. Gordy was
not only Deputy Nelson's partner, but also part of his family. Gordy will be greatly missed by Deputy Nelson as well as the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.
