On Friday evening, September 7, 2012, at approx. 8:45 p.m., Spokane County Corrections Deputy J. Durkin was guarding 30-year-old Wayne Davis at a local hospital. When hospital staff moved Davis to a different bed, he attempted to escape. Deputy Durkin
was able to maintain control of Davis and defeat Davis' attempt to take his sidearm out of his holster during the altercation. Deputy Durkin maintained control of his sidearm and was able to detain Davis in the hospital room with assistance from medical staff.
Davis is an inmate at the Spokane County Jail for the charges of Obstructing and Indecent Exposure. Davis will now be facing an additional felony charge of 2nd Degree Assault from Friday evenings incident. Deputy Durkin received a laceration to his head that
required stitches
