Today, Wednesday, September 5, 2012, Spokane County Sheriff's Office Investigative Task Force (ITF) detectives served a search warrant at 415 East Montgomery Avenue.
The search warrant resulted in an investigation stemming from a burglary investigation at Discount Lumber on May 29, 2012. During the burglary at the lumber yard, surveillance video recorded a white male, later identified as 37 year old Troy L. Baumgardner,
destroying video cameras on the property while committing the burglary.
Through ITF detectives investigation, they also developed information that Baumgardner was possibly involved with a burglary that occurred at Aspen Sound sometime between July 3rd and 4th of this year, as well as a burglary at Payless Shoes in the Shadle area
on July 30th of this year.
After ITF detectives confirmed Baumgardner's identity and location of his residence, theywere able to obtain a search warrant which was served on September 4, 2012, at about 10:45 p.m.
ITF detectives located over 400 pieces of stereo equipment taken during the Aspen Sound burglary inside the residence, which has an estimated retail value over $200,000. Several hundreds of pairs of shoes stolen during the Payless Shoes burglary were located
as well as landscape material that was stolen from a local landscape company over this past weekend. The estimated loss to Payless Shoes was over $40,000 and the loss to the landscape company was at $3,500.
According to ITF detectives, this was the largest monetary recovery in stolen items they had ever recovered in a single search warrant. ITF detectives believe Baumgardner is responsible for multiple burglaries in the Spokane area along with the aforementioned.
Baumgardner was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the charges of 2nd Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Theft and 2nd Degree Malicious Mischief stemming from the Discount Lumber burglary. Additional charges are expected as ITF detectives continue their investigation.
