Update on 2-Year-Old, Detective Asks for Public’s Help

Posted 7/30/2012 11:26 AM by MDGREGORY

Update on the 2-year-old girl who was struck by a suspected drunk driver in the area of Maringo Drive just west of Argonne Road on Saturday, July 21st while on a bicycle ride with her parents.

On Wednesday, she was released for the hospital and is recovering nicely at home.

The investigation continues and two search warrants were executed on Thursday. One search warrant was for the suspect’s 2003 Honda Element and the other was for the suspect’s medical records from the hospital where he was briefly treated the night of the incident after his arrest.

A more in-depth interview of the witness who was following behind the suspect when the collision occurred has been completed. At the time of the interview, Detective Thornburg passed on a sincere “Thank You” on behalf of the sheriff’s office and the Packard family for his selfless willingness to get involved, follow, and identify the suspect in this incident. This witness does not consider himself a hero and stated he did what any parent or concerned citizen would do in similar circumstances. He is quite humble and does not want any media contact or attention.

From additional interviews and witnesses, Detective Thornburg learned the suspect was coming from a party that was being held at the apartment clubhouse at the Pasadena apartment complex where he fled back to after the crash.

Detective Thornburg would like to talk with any of the party goers who are willing to speak with law enforcement and in attendance that evening. Nobody from the party is in trouble or suspected of committing a crime, but he would like to talk with them to learn more about the suspect’s actions leading up to the collision.

Detective Thornburg can be reached at 509-477-2710 or by email at dthornburg@spokanesheriff.org
