On July 17th at approximately 9:50 p.m., Spokane Valley Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a stabbing in the 19000 E. Marlin Drive in Spokane Valley.
When deputies arrived, they found 40-year-old Jason C. Abbott laying in the front yard with a stab wound to his abdomen. During the initial investigation, it was reported the incident started when Abbott who has been staying with his 58-year-old mother was
confronted by her about stealing money. As the argument continued, 58-year-old Glenn G. Heister who also lives at the residence entered into the argument.
The argument became physical between Abbott and Heister and escalated to the use of a pipe by Abbott and a sword by Heister.
Heister was not at the location when deputies arrived but they were able to contact him by phone. He voluntarily returned to the residence and was interviewed after he was informed of his rights. He admitted he stabbed Abbott with a sword because he feared
for his life. He stated Abbott stuck him several times in the face with a metal coat hook and a white pipe which he explained he was able to disarm Abbott of by hitting the pipe out of his hand. Heister told deputies when Abbott returned with another pipe,
he feared for his life and picked up the sword which he keeps in his room. Heister said Abbott hit him in the face with the pipe and that’s when he pointed the sword at Abbott stabbed him as he tried to push him out of his room.
Abbott who was transported to a local hospital for his wound told deputies in an initial brief statement that Heister charged him and he tried to hold Heister to the ground. He stated his mother pulled him off of Heister but Heister attacked him again. Abbott
said he tried to leave the residence but Heister grabbed a sword and stabbed him in the stomach.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Abbott was listed in stable condition earlier today.
