On Sunday morning, July 8, 2012, at 3:30 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy D. Westlake responded to Walgreens, located near the 7900 block of North Division regarding a male inside the business' trash dumpster.
When Deputy Westlake approached the dumpster he found 47 year old Darrell Brunson hiding inside the dumpster. Once Deputy Westlake was able to remove Brunson from the dumpster, Brunson told him he thought it was legal to be inside a store dumpster. When Deputy
Westlake asked why he was not making a noise as he approached, Brunson did not have an answer.
After speaking with the store manager, Walgreens decided to pursue trespassing charges against Brunson. Once Brunson was under arrest for Criminal Trespassing, Deputy Westlake located a clear plastic baggy containing a white crystal substance inside Brunson’s
backpack. This substance later field tested with a presumptive positive test for methamphetamine.
Brunson was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the charges of Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree and Possession of a Controlled Substance, methamphetamine.
