On Sunday, June 10, 2012, at about 5:30 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy Marc Melville responded to 16th and Dishman-Mica Road reference a stolen vehicle call. When Deputy Melville arrived on scene, he saw two vehicles stuck in the trees next to the
Deputy Melville spoke with the father and son victims. The father told Deputy Melvi...lle that at about 4:30 a.m. he was leaving his son's home. His son's vehicle was partially blocking his vehicle so he moved it into the road, and left the keys in the ignition.
He attempted to start his vehicle but, due to a problem with his alarm system, had to wait about ten minutes before it would start.
The father went inside his son's house and when he looked out the window, saw his son's vehicle traveling northbound on Dishman Road. The father and son team gave chase in the father's vehicle north on Dishman Road to 8th Avenue. At that point, the car thief
chose to drive southbound on the railroad tracks between Dishman Road and Dishman-Mica Road and the father/son team chose to follow.
When the vehicles reached the area of 16th Avenue, both the car thief and father/son team lost control of their vehicles and drove into a group of trees just south of 16th Avenue. The suspect ran northbound on Dishman Road and the victims lost sight of him.
The suspect was described as a white male, about six feet tall wearing a blue shirt and black pants. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
