Sheriff's Intelligence Commander Captain Dave Ellis

Dave Ellis - Intelligence CommanderCaptain Ellis started his law enforcement career with the Post Falls Police Department in 1998. During that time he worked as a patrol officer, Field Training Officer, and as a member of the SWAT team. He was awarded the Officer of the Year award in 2000.

In 2002, Captain Ellis joined the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. During that time, he has worked as a Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, the Regional Training Coordinator, Lead Patrol Procedures Instructor, Academy TAC Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Traffic Unit Sergeant, and Tactical Flight Officer and supervisor of the Air Support Unit.

During his career with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, he has been awarded the Life Saving Medal, Unit Merit award, and the Sheriff’s Star award.

He currently oversees the Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Unit, managing planning, research, and analysis operations within the agency. Other responsibilities include managing the Lexipol policy manual, database management, statistical data, mapping, crime analysis, and development of the Intelligence Led Policing (ILP) model.

Captain Ellis is also the current commander of the Air Support Unit. He helped the unit become one of the first five agencies in the United States to become accredited through the Public Safety Aviation Accreditation Commission and he currently serves as the Western Regional Director for the Airborne Law Enforcement Association, covering the Western United States and all of Asia.
