Inmate Visiting Policy

  • All visitors must be on the inmate's visiting list before they will be allowed to visit.
  • All visitors must contact the inmate to find out if they are on the visiting list either through phone when the inmate calls or mail contact. No incoming calls are accepted for inmates except for cases of extreme emergency.
  • The receptionist is not allowed to disclose who is on the visiting list.
  • There is a maximum of 3 visitors during a visit; any combination of 1 Adult + 2 Children, 2 Adults +1 Child, 3 Adults.
  • You must be on the inmate's visiting list. See Visiting List under Inmate Visiting Policy for more information.
  • You will need to fill out a visitor request form and turn it into the Receptionist.
  • You will receive a token for the parcel lockers located to the east of the counter. Lock up all your personal belongings. Instructions for the use of the lockers are on the locker door.
  • You may only take your identification with you to the visiting booth.
  • Juveniles being accompanied by a parent or legal guardian may be permitted to visit inmates housed in this facility, provided proof of guardianship is also provided – see “Identification”.
  • Inmates who have been in our facility less than 30 days will be allowed one (1) visit per week per inmate.
  • Inmates who have been in our facility for 30 days or more will be allowed three (3) visits per week. Inmates will be eligible for three visits per week beginning one calendar month from the date they were booked. For example; an inmate who was booked on May 25 would be eligible for three visits on June 25.
  • Inmates on Work Crew status will receive four (4) visits per week.
  • Inmates on Inmate Worker status will receive four (4) visits a week.
  • Inmates on weekend status or serving one-day sentences do not have visiting privileges.
  • Monday is the beginning of the new visiting week.
  • During a fire alarm, you may be told to leave the area. Leave only if told to do so. You will be directed to the stairs by an employee.
  • You may not be allowed to visit if you have been released from custody in the last 30 days. You may not be allowed contact visiting if you have been released from custody in the last 90 days; however you will be able to visit non-contact after the 30 days release from custody.
  • There may be occasions when visitation is cancelled, (i.e. emergency within the facility, changes of inmate housing location or an inmate is called out to court).
  • Once you have been processed, you will then receive a visitor's pass from the receptionist to be placed on your shirt.
  • Go through the metal detector and all the way back to the elevators. If the metal detector alarm sounds, you will need to return and remove any offending objects.
  • If you have a medical reason for not going through the metal detector or for sounding it, please provide documentation.
  • Both facilities recommend removing studded belts or excessive jewelry prior to attempting the metal detector.
  • Annex visitors will receive other directions for visiting including a map.
  • You will be ‘wanded’ at the Geiger facility.

Individuals determined to be inappropriately dressed will not be allowed to visit. It is recommended that the visitor dress conservatively. Determination is at the Receptionist/Visiting Deputy’s discretion. Any alteration to clothing once in the visiting area is cause for termination of the visit.

  • Clothing must fit appropriately.
  • Shoes are required.
  • Proper undergarments are required to be worn.
  • Dresses and skirts must be mid-thigh or longer.
  • No steel toed boots or shoes.
  • No sexually explicit, obscene/offensive language or gang referencing material.
  • Examples of inappropriate attire
    • Transparent or see-through attire
    • Low-cut shirts
    • Backless tops, tube tops, halter tops, tank tops
    • No bare midriffs
    • Mini-skirts
    • Clothing that looks like inmate clothing
    • Skin tight clothing
  • To ensure a safe and pleasant visit, inmates and visitors will abide by the code of conduct.
  • Visitors and inmates are expected to know, and abide by, the visiting policies and guidelines.
    • Weapons of any kind are not permitted in the facility.
    • Visitors will be denied if they have been drinking, or have the appearance or smell of intoxicants prior to entry into the facility.
    • Visiting will be terminated if a visitor needs to leave the visiting area for any reason. Restroom breaks will not be permitted during visits.
    • Out of consideration for other visitors and staff, children must be under direct supervision and within sight of the visiting parent/guardian at all times. Roughhousing and horseplay will be stopped immediately by the visiting parent. Physical discipline of children will not be allowed and will be reason for terminating the visit.
    • Use of profanity will not be tolerated and be authorization to terminate or deny the visit.
    • No yelling outside the facility to inmates
    • One hug at the beginning and end of visit, sit across from each other and hands on top of the table.
    • There is no smoking, food or beverages permitted in the public lobby or in the visiting areas. Anyone who brings in food/beverages will not be allowed to visit.
      • Exception for water in a baby bottle for infants.
      • Exception to policy for Work Crew at Geiger Facility only.
  • The following is accepted identification at this facility. Failure to provide one of the listed items will result in the visit being cancelled.
  • Government Issued Picture Identification
  • No photocopies are allowed
  • Address on identification must match given address
  • No expired identification will be accepted
    • An exception will be made for active military ID or for states that do not issue identification with an expiration date.
    • For military ID, no time limit will be imposed while on active duty.
    • State issued ID without an expiration date will only be accepted at this facility for 5 years from date of issuance
    • State issued ID with an extended expiration date will only be accepted at this facility for five years from date of issuance.
    • Identification must match address given
    • Temporary paper ID’s expire with the temporary expiration date.
  • Juveniles must have a Government issued birth certificate
    • Hospital copy will be allowed if child is born within 30 days.
    • Court Order signed by judge/commissioner designating legal guardianship
    • Juveniles 13 or older must have picture ID from school or government agency with their birth certificate
    • Guardian must remain with minor at all times

No visiting on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday

Visitors need to arrive no sooner than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the session.  The visiting center will be completely emptied after each session.  Visitors may attend subsequent sessions only after everyone else has been processed in, and only if there is room remaining.  Priority may be given to  those who have traveled over 100 miles to visit.


Phone Calls

The Spokane County Jail does not accept incoming phone calls for inmates unless an EXTREME emergency exists. If you feel you have an extreme emergency situation, you need to call back and ask for the on-duty shift sergeant.

Inmates are allowed to make outgoing collect phone calls to persons of their choice. If you accept a collect call from an inmate of the Spokane County Jail, you will be charged by the minute. You can pre-pay for inmate calls through Public Communications Services (PCS) through their website, www.pcsdailydial.com, or by calling (888) 288-9879.


Inmate Funds

NEW! - Funds can now be put on account for Jail and Geiger inmates at the Spokane County Jail cashiers window. Inmate funds for both facilities are now under the same system.

We currently accept US Post Money Orders, Western Union Money Orders, U.S. Treasury Checks, as well as checks from Tribal Institutions and other Correctional Facilities through the mail for posting on an inmate's account.  We will accept Cashiers Checks for under $500.00.
