Adopt a Pet
Adoption process
If you are interested in adopting a pet from SCRAPS, you will need to provide photo identification with a current address. You will also need to be prepared to pay the full adoption fee at the time you adopt the pet (please refer to Adoption Fees). You must be at least 18 years old to adopt a pet from SCRAPS.
We suggest you spend time looking for your new lifetime best friend. Review their personality information on their cage or kennel cards. If the animal's paperwork is stamped “For Adoption,” you may take that animal out of his/her kennel and spend time with it either in our cat socialization room, or in one of our outdoor dog exercise areas.
If you have decided on a certain pet, please leave the animal in its kennel or cage and bring only the paperwork up to the front counter for the adoption process.
THE "SAFER" Assessment
All three shelters in Spokane use the MYM SAFER (tm) assessment tool. It is a short seven item aggression assessment that generally takes no more than ten minutes per dog to complete. The carefully planned sequence of assessment items builds from least invasive and stimulating to most invasive and arousing, in order to determine what, if any, aggression issues the dog may have. Once a dog has passed his or her SAFER Assessment it will be available for adoption when its holding period runs out.
If you don't find what you want please check the Spokane Humane Society, www.spokanehumanesociety.org or SpokAnimal www.spokanimal.org. Also don't forget to check www.petfinder.com and www.petango.com to search for adoptable pets!
