Ambassador Program

The Fair Ambassador Program (established in 2000) is open to all youth (male and female).  The candidates need to be at least a junior in High School up to 20 years of age.  The 2009 competition is scheduled for Spring 2009.  Winners will receive a $500.00 scholarship to the educational institution of their choice.

2008 Spokane County Interstate Fair Ambassadors

The competition began with applications from many contestants. The initial round of judging narrowed the field to the top twelve candidates including Ashley Arts (Lakeland HS), Ryan Attridge (Deer Park HS), Cynthia Bauder (Deer Park Home Link), Madolyn Bayle (S.C.C.), Christina Boardman (Deer Park HS), Laura Dullanty (Lewis & Clark HS), Katherine Ford (Mt. Spokane HS), Kelly Korotish (S.F.C.C.), Becca Shrauger (Deer Park HS), Jeannette Thompson (West Valley HS), Angela Wolfe (Deer Park Home Link), and Emma Wolfe (Deer Park Home Link).  These twelve candidates competed at an event on March 15 to select the 2008 Spokane County Interstate Fair Ambassadors (below).

Scholarships were donated by Insulation Specialists Inc.  Each contestant received special gifts from the following program supporters - Camp Fire USA, Cyrus O'Leary's Pies, Franz Bakery, Interstate Fair Food Vendors, LCD Expo Services, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Pizza Rita, Seven-Up Bottling Company, Spokandy, Spokane Indians Baseball, and the Valley YMCA.


Madolyn Bayle (S.C.C.):

Madolyn Bayle

Madolyn is the 19-year-old daughter of Mike and Martha Bayle of Veradale, Washington. She has contributed to her community through community food drives, participating in Valleyfest, serving as camp attendant for handicapped children, serving as cabin counselor for a youth retreat, and being a regular blood donor. Some of Madolyn’s High School activities include State DECA in sports and entertainment, coordination of WASC and placement of WASC delegates, softball, coaching swim team, and teaching swimming lessons at a local pool. Madolyn has a current G.P.A. of 3.0. Madolyn’s plans for the future are to work as a paramedic and further her education in the medical field. Her goals are to one day work as a flight nurse and raise a family. She adds, “I will continue to volunteer my time in community activities including health care and food drives.” Madolyn states that her interests include swimming, lifeguarding, working with children adding that she enjoys “traveling and meeting new people as well as being active in the community.”

Jeannette Thompson (West Valley HS):

Jeannette Thompson

Jeannette is the 17-year-old daughter of Robert and Kathleen Thompson of Spokane Valley. She has extensive community service hours via her participation in the Spokane Lilac Festival Association’s Royalty Court, Center for Organizational Reform Leadership Institute, and as a Washington Association of Student Councils Delegate. Jeannette plans to attend a four-year university and obtain a Bachelor’s Degree at a minimum. She states that “While the hospitality industry is a career field that I am currently interested in, I’m open to any future career option”. In school, Jeannette has been involved in DECA, Drama Club, Eagle Ambassador, Greater Spokane Association of Student Councils as Vice President, Leadership / ASB, Link Crew as Co-President, and National Honor Society. She took 1st place during a Washington Area 11 DECA competition in the individual hotel and lodging industry. She has served as a student speaker at a Veteran’s Day Assembly and maintains a 3.44 G.P.A. Jeannette lists as her special interests – culinary arts, gardening, painting, photography, tennis, and swimming. She also adds, “I love to travel and plan to travel all of Route 66 during the summer of 2009”.

Angela Wolfe (Deer Park Home Link):

Angela is the 18-year-old daughter of John and Ann Wolfe of Chattaroy, Washington. Angela has been involved in her high school’s presentation of the play “Pride and Prejudice” and is also responsible for planning the 2008 Junior / Senior Banquet and the school art show. She is on the honor roll with a G.P.A. at Spokane Community College where she is a Running Start student. Angela states that she has been in speech clubs since she was 14 years old and is a trained and certified lifeguard. She was on a swim team for four years. She plays the guitar and a little bit of piano and is involved with raising and showing hogs through the Homegrown Hogs 4-H Club. She adds that she has a “passion for government and training up future political leaders and senators to be good servant leaders”. She has participated in the 1997 Waterman Lake Beach Clean-up Project, served at the Foothills Community Church Widow’s Dinner, went on a mission to Mexico in 2006, Irish Step Danced at nursing homes on St. Patrick’s Day, and has student taught physical education at the Calvary Chapel Home School Group. Angela hopes to finish her Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a minor in communications. After graduating she is looking at a career in public relations.

Emma Wolfe (Deer Park Home Link)

Emma Wolfe

Emma is the 17-year-old daughter of John and Ann Wolfe of Chattaroy, Washington. She has been active in community affairs by teaching Vacation Bible School, cooking and serving at a Widow’s dinner, Irish Dancing at retirement homes, volunteering at a homeless shelter in Rhode Island, delivering gifts to children of prisoners, and participating in a Mission Trip to Mexico in 2005. In school, Emma has made the President’s Honor Roll with a G.P.A. of 3.65 while attending Spokane Community College in the Culinary Program as a Running Start Student. She has been in three school plays including Peter Pan, Prince Caspian, and Pride and Prejudice. She is a principle dancer for the Kelly Irish Dancers and has taken piano lessons for five years. Emma’s plans for the future include graduating for the Culinary Arts program and obtaining a baking certificate from S.C.C. She then plans to pursue a four-year degree. Her desire is to become a chef. She states she would also like to compete at Aractus, the National Irish Dance competition. Emma adds that she raises and shows pigs through the Homegrown Hogs 4-H Club and was a lifeguard at the Deer Park Pool.
