Located approximately 16 miles south of the City of Spokane
Valley on State Highway 27, the Town of Rockford is a service center for
the many farms and agricultural lands that surround it. Cenex
Harvest States, a farmer owned cooperative is currently the Town's
largest employer.
Originally named "Farnsworth", the Town was
founded in 1877 by Dewitt Clinton, John Farnsworth and Albert M.
Worley, early pioneers who constructed a sawmill at the junction of Rock
and Mica Creeks. The Town was renamed in 1880 in reference to the
large "rocky ford" in Rock Creek and was officially
incorporated as the Town of Rockford in 1890. Rockford is
currently home to approximately 504+ residents, 50 % of whom are
considered low income.
The Town of Rockford has participated in the Spokane County
Urban County Consortium since its inception in 1988, and in that time
has successfully completed 13 projects with the assistance of
approximately $1,032,010 in CDBG funds.
