Mechanical-Plumbing FAQ
Mechanical permits are required for replacement, repair, or alteration of mechanical systems in structures. This includes gas lines, propane tanks, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems and equipment, Type I and Type II hoods and suppression systems, and similar items. Plumbing permits are required for all plumbing work including waste drains and venting, water supply lines and related fixtures, appliance installation, fire and lawn sprinkler systems and similar installations.

Plumbing and mechanical permits for commercial uses must first be reviewed by our Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector and, in most cases, will not be issued the same day. These permits may also require plans to be submitted.

Fees for plumbing and mechanical permits are generally based on the type of appliance or number of plumbing fixtures. Permit and fee information may be obtained from the Department of Building and Planning located on the first floor of the Public Works Building (1026 West Broadway), or by calling one of our representatives at 477-3675 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
