The recording department is charged with recording real estate documents,
liens, military discharges, maps, and surveys. The recording department also issues marriage licenses and County
business licenses. Copies of any recorded document can also be obtained through this department for a fee.
No, we do not provide blank documents or forms.
Original birth and death records after 1907 are maintained by the Regional Health District,
Vital Statistics Office at 324-1522. There are only few original records beginning with 1886 through 1907
available in the recording department.
Yes, effective January 1, 2008 the recording department will record the national
form with the standard document fee of $42.00 for the first page and a $1.00 for each additional page.

The recording office records Real Estate documents, liens, military discharges,
maps and surveys. Copies of these documents are available for a fee.
We also issue marriage licenses and County business licenses. For information regarding
City business licenses, please call the City of Spokane, Taxes and License Department at 625-6070.
To avoid reformatting your document for margins,
you have the option of attaching a coversheet with signed affidavit,
and paying the $50.00 non-standard fee in addition to the recording fees.
The Auditor's Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m., including the lunch hour.

Marriage Information Effective January 1, 2008, the marriage license fee would be $55.00. We can only accept checks or cash. At this time, we are unable to process credit or debit cards. Applicants must be 18 years of age and provide a current picture ID, such as a Driver's License, State ID card, Military ID, or Passport. The ceremony must be performed between three and 60 days after the date of issuance. The person performing the ceremony must be a judge, a retired judge, or an ordained minister. You may contact a District Court judge at 477-3661. We also perform searches and provide copies of marriage licenses. For licenses issued before 1974, the search fee is $8.00 per hour with a 1 hour minimum. Photocopies are $1.00 and certified copies, which are the equivalent of an original, are $3.00. To search, we must have the name of the bride or groom and the approximate date or year of the ceremony. You may obtain a license at 1116 West Broadway Avenue, on the 2nd floor of the Spokane County Courthouse. We are open Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00pm, excluding holidays. |
