Spokane County Regional Water Reclamation Facility Opens
A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony was held at the new Regional Water Reclamation Facility on December 1, 2011. (From left to right) County Commissioners Al French, Mark Richard and Todd Mielke were joined by representatives from CH2M HILL, the State Department of Ecology and County staff.
Spokane County's new Regional Water Reclamation Facility is operating six-months ahead of the scheduled contract deadline and under budget!
The $173-million flagship facility uses state-of-the-art membrane filtration technology that will achieve treatment levels for nutrients that are some of the most stringent in the nation! For example, the water that is discharged into the Spokane River from the facility will have the lowest levels of combined nutrient pollution in the United States. In addition, the new facility will produce Class A reclaimed water for beneficial reuse (industrial uses, urban irrigation, wetlands restoration, etc.).
The facility will primarily serve the Spokane Valley area of the county. With the initial capacity to treat up to eight-million gallons (mgd) of wastewater daily, the facility’s capacity can be expanded to 24-million gallons a day to accommodate increasing demand over the next 20-50 years.
