Building and Planning
Spokane County's Building and Planning Department continues to make significant improvements to its processes designed to enhance customer service and spur economic development in the county. Long gone are the days when it would take a small business or property owner weeks, if not months, to get a building permit and pay large fees to be able to improve their property.
To support our small business community the Spokane County Building and Planning Department has developed a new approach that expands the list of projects that qualify for an over-the-counter permit. The process improvements have shortened the review time and resulted in a significant reduction to the cost of the permit. In most cases that reduction in the cost of a permit is as much as 75%. Now, that’s what we call “customer friendly”!
County Commissioner Al French worked with department management and staff, and praised the results, “The County continues to look for ways to spur economic development and support small businesses. This is another program improvement that includes a significant cost reduction that we think will benefit the overall business community. It’s a home run,” French said.
