County Commissioners Begin Selection Process for County Clerk

April 01, 2014 Daniela Erickson
Clerk of the Board
(509) 477-2265

The Spokane County Republican Party has submitted three names for consideration by the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) to fill the position of Spokane County Clerk until the general election results are certified on November 25, 2014: Mike Volz, John Christina, and Tim Fitzgerald.

Consistent with previous appointment processes conducted by the BoCC, the nominees have been notified that additional information is to be submitted to the Clerk of the Board, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014. The BoCC is requesting the following:

• Resume
• Biography
• Personal statement as to why they are seeking this position
• Completed F1 form as required by the Public Disclosure Commission
• Statement of qualifications
• Letters of Support
• Any other information that is relevant to this position

While waiting for the additional information, county staff will conduct a background check on each nominee. The background check will consist of searching public information that is available through the Internet, Superior Court Management Information System (SCOMIS), and the records division of Spokane County area law enforcement, so they can complete a comprehensive review of all three nominees before appointing one to serve the citizens of Spokane County and the State of Washington.

The public may submit written, emailed, and/or verbal comments to the County Commissioner’s Office, until the close of business on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. The Board’s mailing address is 1116 W. Broadway Avenue, Spokane, WA 99260. The office phone number is (509) 477-2265.

The BoCC will conduct interviews of the nominees on Monday, April 21st. The interviews will be open to the public.

The appointment will be in effect until the results of the November 4th General Election are certified on November 25, 2014, when the winner of the General Election will officially take office for the remainder of 2014 and the next four years. Washington State Statute requires a final selection be made by Saturday, April 26, 2014.
