West Valley Community Truancy Board (WVSD CTB) Study and Replication Efforts:
The WVSD CTB is a school based process with on going connection to the Spokane County Juvenile Court designed to address the problem of truancy and to comply with the attendance monitoring and court petitioning provisions of the state's truancy statute. The WVSD CTB is based on the principles of restorative justice and community based problem solving in which the student, family, school, court, and community partners all act in partnership.
The WVSD CTB was recognized by the Washington State Association of School Curriculum and Development for contributing to a significant and positive impact on student learning. In 1996, 68% of WV truancy cases ended up in court. in the 2009-10 school year, 93.5% of the cases were successfully mediated at the district level.

Governors' Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee (GJJAC)
Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders: Grant funding obtained through the Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee (GJJAC), and in conjunction with the Models for Change initiative, the Juvenile Court placed a Probation Officer in West Valley School District to utilize the best practices program "check and connect" in working with truant youth.
Spokane MFC Truancy Mapping Project
Meetings were held to "map" the Truancy Process in Spokane County. A flow chart and narrative of Spokane's current Truancy process and documents containing identified opportunities for reform were products of the mapping process.
Washington Assessment of Risk and Needs for Students (WARNS):
The WARNS is a multi-level assessment process designed to assist school and juvenile courts in identifying students at risk for future problematic behaviors and to identify students' needs in terms of case management and prevention/intervention services.
