Models for Change

Models for Change logoCurrent Models for Change Projects in Spokane are aimed at developing best practices procedures for truancy processes, improving school engagement and reducing drop out rates, and increasing access to services identified as best practices for truant student’s needs.

Multi-systems collaboration and coordination of projects include work with the West Valley School Districts' Community Truancy Board (WVSD CTB), the WVSD Child Study Team, Washington State University (WSU), replication development sites in East Valley and Mead School Districts, collaboration with all 14 Spokane County School Districts, diverse community groups, court staff, and the Mayor's Drop-out Prevention committees. We are also partnered with State and National entities such as the BECCA Taskforce, Administrative Office of the Courts/Washington State Center for Court Research (WSCCR), Center for Children and Youth Justice (CCYJ), OSPI, the Washington State Partnership Council for Juvenile Justice (formerly known as GJJAC), Vera, and the RFD Children's Action Corps.

Spokane County Models for Change Truancy projects support WA state goals by offering earlier, more informal processes for re-engaging truant youth as well as offering a variety of alternatives to detention for the highest needs/risk youth found in contempt.
