Bus Board Ads

Have you seen these bus boards on the Spokane Transit buses? Spokane County Community Services entered into a contract with Gateway Outdoor Advertising to place these four images on 54 exterior bus boards and 30 interior panels until December 2007. Many of the bus boards may remain past December until new ads replace them.

The objective of this project is to reach two groups:

  1. The Start Talking images are focused toward parents and encourages them to start talking to their children about the risks associated with alcohol consumption.
Start Talking Before They Start Drinking - Sarah, first drink age 14 Start Talking Before They Start Drinking - Jake, first drink age 13
  2. The Soberbreakin and Soberjammin images are focused toward teens and are designed to challenge a common myth that one must consume alcohol to have a good time.
Soberbreakin - Life at its best. Add nothing. Vacation sober. SoberJammin - Life at its best. Add nothing. Jam sober.

Substance Abuse Prevention Services
Substance Abuse Prevention Services are primarily supported by federal Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment (SAPT) funds that come to the County from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse. Funding is also provided by other local, state and federal sources.
The County contracts with several community not-for-profit organizations to provide prevention services. These services are targeted to specific populations and they address priority risk and protective factors. They are provided in community, family, school and peer/individual domains.

Substance Abuse Advisory Board Information
The Substance Abuse Advisory Board consists of up to 12 members appointed by the Spokane County Board of Commissioners. Members are chosen for their demonstrated concern for alcoholism and other drug addiction problems. Members of the Board are representative of the community, and we encourage members of minority groups and people in recovery to participate in our Advisory Board. It is helpful in the review process if applicants identify themselves as people in recovery or as a member of a minority group.
Unless otherwise scheduled, the advisory board meets on the 4th Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. in the Community Services Building at 312 West 8th Avenue in the 5th floor conference room.
If you are interested in applying to the Substance Abuse Advisory Board, please print the attached application below, complete and sign the document, and mail it to the Board of County Commissioners, 1116 West Broadway Avenue, Spokane, WA 99260, Attention Kristin Condon.
