Online Filing

The Spokane County Elections Office will open a special filing period for several elected positions which had no candidates file during the regular filing period.  Online Candidate Filing is available from 9 AM on Tuesday August 8th through 4 PM on Thursday August 10th.  The special three-day filing period begins on August 8th for the districts listed below only:

Town of Latah – (Mayor, Council Position No. 1, 3, 4 and 5)
Orchard Prairie School District - (Director Position No. 1)
Fire District No. 2 – (Commissioner Position No. 1, 2 and 3)
Fire District No. 11 – (Commissioner Position No. 3)
Fire District No. 12 – (Commissioner Position No. 1, 2 and 3)
Hangman Hills Water District – (Commissioner Position No. 1)
Strathview Water District - (Commissioner Position No. 2 and 3)
Valley of the Horse Water District - (Commissioner Position No. 3)
Vel-View Water District – (Commissioner Position No. 1, 2 and 3)
Spangle Cemetery District – (Commissioner Position No. 2)
Waverly Cemetery District – (Commissioner Position No. 3)
Liberty Lake Sewer and Water District - (Commissioner Position No. 3)

These vacant positions will appear on the General Election Ballot.  The candidate that receives the most votes will be elected to fill the term.  Those interested in filing for one of the vacant positions listed can go to the Spokane County Elections Office at 1033 W. Gardner Avenue between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on August 8 through August 10, 2017 or file online from 9 AM on August 8th through 4 PM August 10th.  If the office has a filing fee, please be prepared to pay the required filing fee in full.  Candidates may not withdraw at any time when filing for office during a Special 3 Day Filing period.

To file online, the following is required:
  • You must be a registered voter in the district for which you are filing.  Check your voter registration.
  • You must have a valid email address.
  • If the office has a filing fee, you may pay with a credit card at the time of online filing.
  • If the office has a filing fee, you may pay your filing fee with cash or check in the Spokane County Elections Office Tuesday through Thursday, August 8th through August 10th, during our normal business hours of 8:30 AM to 4 PM (If you are paying by cash or check, it must be received by Spokane County Elections no later than 4 PM on Thursday, August 10th, 2017. Your Declaration of Candidacy will not be validated until your filing fee has been paid).
Spokane County in-person and online filing closes August 10th, 2017, at 4 PM.

Candidate Online Voters’ Guide Statements & Photos


The Spokane County Elections will be providing an Online Voters’ Guide for the Primary and General Elections. After your Declaration of Candidacy has been validated, you will receive a separate email notification describing how to submit your candidate statement and photograph.

Alternative to Filing Fee - Filing Fee Petition


Persons lacking sufficient funds to pay the filing fee and choosing to submit a filing fee petition must file in person during filing week with:

Knowingly providing false information on a Declaration of Candidacy is a class C felony as provided by RCW 29A.84.711.
