The Hawthorne East Stormwater Project took place in conjunction with CRP3166. The stormwater aspect of the project replaced aging disposal structures with new structures and provided stormwater treatment.
This project is located over the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie aquifer which is designated as a sole-source aquifer by the EPA, and provides drinking water for 500,000 people. The project is designed in accordance with the Spokane Regional Stormwater Manual which is an Ecology-approved, equivalent manual to the Stormwater Management Manual for Eastern Washington.
Funding for the stormwater aspects of this project came from Stormwater fees that have already been collected, along with Washington State Department of Ecology grant funds. The cost of the stormwater portion of the work was $425,000.00.
